Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat a few eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is actually great for your mood. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine.
