Foods That Can Make You Happy

Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. At times, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are wonderful at combating depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
