Instructions to make Apple pie 🥧:
- Cut the butter into 1/2" pieces
- Mix the flour, sugar and salt
- Add butter, half at a time to the mixture, pulsing several times after each addition in the food processor
- Sprinkle the mixture with ice water. Add more ice water, one tablespoon at a time. Knead enough so that the dough holds together without cracks.
- Divide the dough into two even-sized disks. Sprinkle each disk with a little flour and wrap each one in plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour or up to two days.
- Peel and cut apple into 1/4" pieces.
- Melt butter and add apples, cook them on medium heat for 1 minute. Add brown sugar and granulated sugar. Sprinkle nutmeg and cinnamon powder and mix. Cook until the apples have stewed and the liquid has thickened.
- Remove the pie crust from the refrigerator and let it sit for 20 minutes in order to soften to make rolling out a bit easier. Roll it into 12"circle and 1/8" thick.
- Place the crust in a pie dish and pour the cooked mixture in the centre.
- Cut the dough into even strips, /1/2" wide with a blunt knife or a pizza wheel. Place them in top of each other making lattice shape.
- Brush it with egg wash.
- Bake it in the oven at 400° F for 35 minutes. Sprinkle sanding sugar and cinnamon powder on top.
