Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
