Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to stay away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely nourishing and good for you. Some foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
