Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know it can help improve your mood also!
