Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at beating back depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!
Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.
If you wish to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.
It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you be happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!
See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
