Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
