Use Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to stay away from them. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a few eggs to feel better!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.
If you want to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
