Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know it can help you be happier too!
So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
